Harrowgate Single Swinging Bell, in F

A single call-to-worship bell for a parish with no ring, tuned to carry cleanly across open farmland.

Harrowgate Parish Church has never had a ring of bells — the tower was built for one swinging bell and stayed that way. The commission asked for a single bell that would carry across a mile of open farmland on a still morning, which meant favouring a strong, well-blended hum and prime over the brighter upper partials a ring bell is tuned for.

Cast at 990mm and 480kg in standard bell bronze, it has swung on a headstock built to the tower’s original nineteenth-century timber frame since 2021.
