Passing bells are tolled singly, struck and left to ring out fully before the next stroke, so the tuning brief here was the opposite of a ring treble’s: a long, clean decay rather than a fast one, with the hum note left slightly more prominent than usual to give the tone extra weight at a distance.
Cast at 890mm and 340kg, the bell has tolled at Ashcombe Memorial Gardens since 2023, rung by a single rope from ground level rather than a full swinging installation.
