The tenor sets the key for every other bell in a ring, so it was the first bell poured and the last to be tuned. At 1,180mm across the mouth and 730kg, it was cast in a loam mould built up over eleven days, cored to the Coldbrook ring’s standard profile and cast in bell bronze at 22% tin.
Tuning took three passes on the tuning lathe, shaving the sound-bow and soundring in turn until the hum, prime, tierce, quint, and nominal partials all sat where the foundry’s tuning curve said a true D3 tenor should. The bell has been ringing at St. Aidan’s, Coldbrook since 2019 and anchors a full six-bell ring.
