Thornfield Priory commissioned a full eight-bell ring rather than the more common six, which meant casting and tuning all eight bells as a single coordinated project — every bell’s partials tuned not just to its own true note but in fixed relation to the other seven, so the whole ring reads as one instrument rather than eight separate ones.
The tenor, at 1,050mm and 610kg, anchors the ring on G and was the last of the eight to be finally tuned, once every lighter bell above it had already been fixed.
